I liked the first story enough to get this one, the second in this series. I like everything about it. The setting is different from what I usually read. The main character is actually showing signs of personal growth, which is a big bonus for me. So many characters are the same throughout a dozen books. So dull. I want to yell at some of them and say, "Grow up!"My only unhappiness with this story is that I had so much trouble keeping all the new characters straight in my mind that I finally gave up and just read to enjoy the rest of the story. I had a good grip on the characters that carried forward from the first story, but the new "cowpersons" and their parents blended into one vague mass. I couldn't remember if Ms X was the mother or daughter. Was Mr. Y the parent of Z or was he somebody's business partner? I could remember the name of the victim and his life circumstances, but was his partner Mr. A or Mr. B, or was Mr. B. a lackey? This could easily be my problem and not a flaw in the story.

I love a good mystery, and especially love a story where I find myself 80% of the way through and still have no idea who the killer is. Left Hanging, much like the first book in the series (Sign off, if you are new to the series), delivers just that. The best part is, you can read any book in the series and not be completely lost. There are references to past books, but they do not prevent you from keeping up with what is going on and enjoying the story.
The Caught Dead in Wyoming series delivers on many levels. I bought this book hoping it would live up to the first, and it did. I immediately purchased the next 2, which is rare for me.
Some specifics on what I enjoy about the books They are very well written, with just a couple of grammatical errors. The characters are relatable, with a couple that you love to hate, and some that you love to love. There has been no sex in the 2 I have read so far, which is another plus in my eyes. I have no objection to steamy scenes, but when I am reading mystery, I want the story focused on the mystery, not on titillating me as a reader. The story builds slowly, never rushing to a conclusion, which in the end delivers a very satisfying read.
If you like true mysteries, I would highly recommend that you give this series a try.
OK, this isn't great literature with big themes, but it's greatly entertaining with a good story and good characters and dialogue. This is the second in the series that centers on a TV newscaster who ends up in tiny Sherman, Wyoming, due to her divorce from her TV exec husband. The town is tiny, the people at the TV station are suspicious or paranoid (depending on the character), and she's kind of in limbo, but mystery deaths keep coming up in little Sherman, and her investigative reporter instincts won't stop, so she and her merry band of local characters (a great supporting crew) get to work and solve the mysteries. This one's about a guy who gets trampled in a bull pen at the site of the annual rodeo, and I was left guessing until the end. Try it, and you may like it.
Compelling, snarky murder mystery. Stand-alone series that is easy to follow with plenty of twists, realistic emotions and believable characters which have distinct personalities. Informative and enjoyable dialogue that resonates with real-life.
The emotions of this rodeo themed story have been building for over 20 years but fortunately the storyline remains in present day. The ending is bittersweet.
Workplace cynicism
The giddy mood of cynicism that overtakes a newsroom when a big story combines with management ineptitude had infected the half-dozen staffers on hand. It’s harmless, if tasteless.
Job opportunities
I think I’d skip a want ad with job duties of Draw attention of angry bull, keep it while everyone else flees to safety.
Animal Rights versus those that love and care for animals

Patricia McLinn is a must read, must buy author.
I will re-re-read this story and look forward to more works by this author.
This was the the second of a four-book series that I enjoyed tremendously. The protagonist, Elizabeth is a journalist - a news reporter who suddenly sank from the top of the business to a small town television station in Wyoming for the duration of her contract. Elizabeth is quite talented. Her only sin is picking the wrong husband which resulted in her exile.
Although a consumer advocate at her new job, with the anchor spot jealously guarded by an untalented male, Elizabeth managed to discover crimes (murders, of course) and work her way through them until she identifies the killer. She is aided in her efforts by a sports editor, Mike, and a local rancher, Tom, as well as a superwoman camera operator, Diane.
The book, as are all in the series, is beautifully written with delightful twists and turns in language. However, it, and all of them, need a very thorough edit to correct slips in content - words left out and incomplete sentences - that were overlooked. Most likely the author performed the final edit, and she read what she thought was written down, not what was there. The series has the potential to be a best-seller but MUST be cleaned up by a professional editor.
